Introducing Locked In: The First Context-Aware AI Website Blocker
Introducing Locked In - an innovative AI-powered website blocker that intelligently understands context to help you stay focused and productive.
Today marks an exciting milestone as we unveil Locked In, a revolutionary approach to managing digital distractions. In a world where traditional website blockers rely on rigid rules and static lists, we're introducing something fundamentally different: an AI-powered focus tool that truly understands context.
Say goodbye to manually adding and maintaining blocklists. With Locked In, you simply specify what you plan to do (e.g., learn a new language, write a blog post about LLMs) and it automatically blocks content that isn't relevant to your goal.
The Problem with Traditional Blockers
We've all been there. You set up a website blocker with the best intentions, only to find yourself constantly tweaking rules and exceptions:
- "I need Twitter for LLM research, but not for scrolling"
- "I allowed Stack Overflow for debugging, but keep getting lost in unrelated programming discussions"
- "That Python tutorial video would be perfect for learning, but YouTube's recommendations are too tempting"
Traditional blockers follow a binary "allow or block" approach that simply doesn't reflect how we work in the real world. For many websites, context matters, and that's where existing solutions fall short.
Enter Locked In: Context-Aware Focus
Modern LLMs excel at understanding context. They can effectively determine whether website content is relevant to your goal and make intelligent allow-or-block decisions accordingly. Their accuracy in this task is remarkable, as they can analyze subtle details within the content to make the right decision.
Locked In represents a paradigm shift in how we manage digital distractions. Here are some example goals that you can set in Locked In:
- "Programming mode: Allow me to message friends on Instagram (but not scroll)"
- "Learn LLMs and Math: Allow me to listen to music on YouTube, but nothing else"
Simply specify what you plan to do in an open-ended way, and Locked In takes care of the rest.
With Locked In, all your data is stored in your browser. We only use server-side models to check if you are following your goal or not. We don't store any data, and we don't sell any data. You can read more about our approach to privacy here.
Why Locked In?
Locked In has been an idea I couldn't get out of my head for a while. Social media addiction is a real problem, and the modern internet makes it increasingly difficult to maintain focus. This challenge affects everyone, from children to adults, who find themselves caught in the grip of social media.
While I don't consider myself a social media addict, I do notice myself getting distracted by it, and maintaining focus has become increasingly challenging over the years. I've been actively using Locked In for my own needs, and it has been transformative. Setting a goal acts like setting an intention, and Locked In handles everything else.
It's exciting to see AI being used to enhance focus rather than create distractions, and I'm genuinely optimistic that AI will fundamentally reshape productivity tools.
Future
We're just getting started, and we have numerous ideas for how to make users more productive with AI at the core. Many of these ideas were impossible before the advent of LLMs.
One of our top priorities is bringing Locked In's intelligence directly to your device. This means enhanced privacy since your data never leaves your device. While there are some good local models, the reliability is not there yet. We're closely following developments in model quantization and optimization to deliver a powerful, reliable yet efficient local-first experience.
From reducing latencies by adding more regions to improving accuracy, providing AI-powered filters, insights, and more, we have an extensive roadmap to make Locked In even more valuable.
